OPENED: September, 1991 Fort Lauderdale Convention Center BUDGET: $48.9 million Fort Lauderdale Convention Center SIZE: 370,000 square feet, encompassing 17 acres Fort Lauderdale Convention Center LOCATION: Northern end of Port Everglades, the world's second largest cruise port. The center is bordered by the Intracoastal Waterway, Southeast 17th Street Causeway and Eisenhower Boulevard. Fort Lauderdale Convention Center DESIGN DESCRIPTION: The front of the three-level meeting and exhibit facility is a glass curtain wall, offering vistas of the Intracoastal Waterway, the city of Fort Lauderdale and a 1.3-acre fountain plaza featuring a 35-foot bronze sailfish sculpture.The complex is directly accessible from both 17th Street (A1A), State Road 84 and Interstate 595. Transportation serves the center from the airport, one and one-half miles away. Fort Lauderdale Convention Center NEW DEVELOPMENTS: A $30 million expansion is underway at the Convention Center and is expected to be completed by 2001. The 230,000 gross square-foot expansion will bring the total gross square footage to 600,000. New space includes a 50,000 square-foot exhibition space, additional meeting rooms, pre-function space and administrative offices. Fort Lauderdale Convention Center MEETING FACILITY & EXHIBIT HALL: The 370,000-square-foot, three-story convention center, owned by Broward County, contains 150,000 square feet of exhibit space, a 20,000-square-foot ballroom; 34,000 square feet of meeting rooms, 53,000 square feet of pre-function/registration space, 12,000 square feet of food-service area and 19 covered loading docks. Fort Lauderdale Convention Center exhibit hall, which accommodates 841 10x10-foot booths, can be divided, by concealed movable walls, into three smaller halls. Hall A contains 64,887 square fee Hall B, 43,018 square feet and Hall C, 42,774 square feet. Each hall has its own foyer, food-concession area and loading docks. Twenty-eight meeting and break-out rooms range in size from 523 square feet to 5,841 square feet. The 20,000- square-foot ballroom accommodates 1,800 banquet- style, and has a capacity for 150 exhibit booths. In addition to the street-level entrance, there is be direct access into the center from the second level of the 2,500 space parking garage via a climate controlled skywalk. Fort Lauderdale Convention Center PARKING: Parking facilities, with direct access into the Convention Center, provide 2,500 spaces dedicated to the Convention Center and cruise ship terminals.
